voleur de rose vol.3

Phantasm is the third volume of Voleur de Rose, released in 2006 by circle Kokonoe (archived link). This volume features doll photos, essay, manga, and sewing patterns for Super Dollfie. The colophon is as follows:

    Chief editor: Yu Sonoi
    Art direction: Kaori Kasai

    Voleur de Rose project:
  • Yun Kouga (kokonoe)
  • Kyon (Ming-Tea mint*)
  • Yu Sonoi (Little Princess)

  • Guests:
  • Skekiyo "Shoujogekidan☆Tokage-za"
  • Pinoko "Mugen-Do"
  • Kirihito Ayamura "Shoujo no yume"
  • Shirow Miwa "m.m.m"
  • Hana "Vanilla Sky"
  • Aoi "Vanilla Sky"
  • Ran Tsuyuri "angel dust"

  • Special Thanx: Apolo

Phantasm also includes a short but beautifully illustrated manga by Kirihito Ayamura, Phantom Closet. I don't know if it's a continuation of manga which may have appeared in the two earlier volumes of Voleur de Rose, but as a standalone, I might compare it to Yoh's Monochrome World as featured many times in Gothic & Lolita Bible.

Because this book is hard to get now, I thought it would be a shame if few people would still be able to appreciate the charmingly haunted world of Phantom Closet. So I've decided to scan and (try to) translate it. I'm not that competent at Japanese, nor do I have any translation or localization experience, but it was easy enough to read so I gave it a try! On that note, I'm not sure if 身窄らしい is an even more obscure way of writing 見窄らしい, just a typo, or something else entirely, and I have no idea what とーりゃんせー means. So if anyone would like to correct or improve my translation, my inbox is open and I would be most appreciative.

Although I'm distributing scans, please pick up a copy if you can! It's a great addition to the shelf of any doll lover.
